Testimonial request messages you can copy: WhatsApp, SMS and email
The wording of the ask decides how many people answer. These are short, polite and specific. Copy one, swap in the name and link, and send it from your own number.
First message
Send this the same day, while the customer still remembers the experience. Replace {name}, {business} and {link}.
Follow-up
One reminder, a few days later, with no pressure. If there is still no reply, let it go.
For walk-in customers: a QR code sign
Print a QR code for your counter, table or invoice. Each scan opens a fresh review page, so you do not need the customer's number. Text for the sign:
Use email only when you do not have a WhatsApp number for the customer.
What makes a request work
- Use their name and mention what they bought or what you did for them.
- Say how long it takes. "30 seconds" or "under two minutes" removes the fear of a chore.
- Make one request. One link, one action.
- Give a choice between video and writing.
- Do not pay for positive reviews. Review platforms prohibit it, and advertising rules expect you to disclose any reward or free product you gave. If you thank customers with a small gift, thank everyone who responds, whatever they say, and say so openly.
Common questions
Should I ask for a review or a testimonial?
A testimonial is feedback you can feature on your own website and social media, with the customer's permission. A review is posted on a third-party site such as Google. You can ask for both: collect the testimonial first, then show the customer your Google review link.
When is the best time to send the request?
The same day, as soon as the customer has had a good experience. Waiting a week makes the memory, and the reply, fade.
