Customer testimonials for local service businesses
Customers hire a tradesperson on trust, usually on the strength of what someone else said. If you do good work, the proof is already out there; you just need to collect it before the customer forgets about you.
Ask before you leave the job
The customer is happiest the moment the problem is fixed or the project is handed over. While you are packing up, say you would be grateful for a quick video or a few lines, and send the link on WhatsApp from the doorstep. You already have their number from the booking.
Put a QR code on what you hand over
Invoices, warranty cards, a sticker on the appliance you repaired: each is a place a happy customer will see again. A QR code gives them their own review page with nothing to install.
Ask for details people can check
- What was the job, and how quickly did we turn up?
- Was the work as quoted, and was the site left clean?
- Would you hire us again, or recommend us?
For project work such as interiors or photography, a video from the customer standing in the finished room or holding the album is more convincing than a photo you took yourself.
Show them where it counts
Link your public testimonial page from your WhatsApp Business profile, your Google Business profile and your Instagram bio, so a prospect who asks "can I see some of your work?" gets an answer in one tap. Publish only what the customer has agreed to and what you have approved.
A simple routine
- When the job is done, tell the customer you would be grateful for a quick video or a few lines.
- Send their link on WhatsApp from the doorstep, using the number they gave you for the booking.
- Add a QR code to your invoice or warranty card, so people who forget can still do it later.
- Once a week, approve the clear, specific ones and add them to your Google profile and website.
Two or three good testimonials a month is a strong result for a one-person business. Keep going and it adds up.
Mistakes to avoid
- Waiting until the end of the month. Ask the day you finish, while the customer remembers the work.
- Only asking customers you know are happy. Ask everyone you served. Filtering who gets asked is against Google's rules.
- Offering a discount for a good review. Review platforms prohibit rewards for positive reviews. If you thank everyone who responds, say so openly.
- Using a customer's photo or home without permission. A testimonial is not permission to show their property. Ask separately.
Common questions
What if the customer is not tech-savvy?
The link opens in the phone's browser with a Record button, and there is a written option too. There is nothing to install and no account to make.
Can I ask a customer on the spot?
Yes. Send the WhatsApp link while you are still there, or show them the QR code on your phone and let them scan it.
